2010 Blount
Mansion Dogwood Tree, Planted by Bonny Kate
Chapter. From L-R: Margaret Kensinger
- Bonny Kate Chapter Regent
and Judith Chaffin - TSDAR
Regent. In 1925 Blount
Mansion, the
birthplace of
the State of
Tennessee and
the home of Governor
William Blount,
of the territory
south of the
Ohio, was about
to be razed for
business
purposes.
This brought
prompt action by
Bonny Kate
Chapter and Miss
Mary Boyce
Temple, who was
Regent at the
time, made plans
to save the
Mansion. Miss
Temple gave a
personal check
of $100.00 to
hold the option. This
check was framed
and now hangs in
the Mansion. It
was by far the
greatest
historical
undertaking of
the Chapter, the
safety of the
Mansion was
assured when it
was pronounced the
"Most
historic spot in
Tennessee". |
