Duck River Chapter History
|
|
The name for the Duck River Chapter NSDAR is from the river which flows through Centerville and much of Hickman County. The Duck River has much historical significance in Hickman County. On the banks of Duck River, Edwin Hickman, Revolutionary War soldier and commissioned surveyor, camped with James Robertson, Colonel Weakley, and others. Indians attacked and Edwin Hickman was killed. Later, the county was named in his honor. The Duck River Chapter DAR published Old Marriage Records of Hickman County, Tennessee, Volumes I and II. Because of the burning of the courthouse in 1864, many of the old records were destroyed. Some of the oldest records were taken from Bibles, family records, etc. Volume I records date to February, 1894, and Volume II February 23, 1894-October 13, 1907. Celebrating 34 Years of Service
