What We Do

In communities across the country and around the world, DAR members volunteer their time and resources, dedicating themselves to the fulfillment of our organization’s three main objectives: Historic PreservationEducation, and Patriotism. These objectives were agreed upon in the first meeting of the DAR and have remained unchanged throughout DAR’s history of active service to the nation.

Historic Preservation

As one of the three main initiatives of DAR, historic preservation has always been a priority for Captain William Edmiston Chapter, NSDAR. We recognize these efforts are crucial to help preserve our cultural heritage for future generations.

  • Dedicated a trail marker for Lafayette’s Tour.
  • Participated in the Suffrage Parade.
  • Purchased a commemorative brick for the Tennessee Triumph Statue.
  • Read the Declaration of Independence during Clarksville’s Fourth of July celebration.
  • Support the Old Post House.

Education

We believe that it is important to recognize achievements made by our high school students. Our volunteers present JROTC and DAR Good Citizens awards to students attending the various high schools in the Clarksville, Montgomery County area.

  • Present deserving students with DAR Good Citizens and JROTC awards.
  • Sponsor the Sevier Station Society, National Society of the Children of the American Revolution (N.S.C.A.C., CAR).
  • Attend conferences and workshops to further our knowledge of genealogical research, American history, and NSDAR.

Patriotism

Our chapter enjoys supporting our veterans and active-duty military in various ways.

  • Make goodie bags for Honor Flights.
  • Collect items for National Guard.
  • Obtained a National Vietnam War Veterans Day proclamation from the county mayor.
  • Host a Flag Day luncheon honoring veterans.

Service to America

As our chapter members move forward in service, keeping the DAR motto of “God, Home, and Country” present in all that we do, we demonstrate our commitment to our founders’ vision of promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism through various community-based service projects.

Captain William Edmiston Chapter, NSDAR, makes an impact in our community by actively participating in a variety of programs.
