Our Meetings

The Captain William Edmiston Chapter, NSDAR, holds a regular monthly meeting except during June, July, and August. Our hostesses arrange for us to have a light lunch prior to the business meeting so that we can socialize and peruse displays. We always have a variety of speakers and programs, and we are excited when we have new members to welcome to our chapter. Daughters are encouraged to proudly wear their DAR insignia pin to each meeting. We also occasionally meet at the Old Post House for special gatherings, such as our Annual DAR Teas.

Antique Road Show

Members brought and shared special family heirlooms. (Oops! The fire extinguisher wasn’t one of them!) Some of the items included:

  • an antique fiddle
  • a huge wedding comb and old cardboard with the owner’s name printed on it
  • an old card and a silver spoon with a velvet case
  • a handmade basket which was approximately 104 to 145 years old
  • an arrowhead collection in a case from articles collected by mound builders
  • a box-full of irons including one which plugged into the over-head light, small miniature irons to press ruffles, and a ceramic sprinkler bottle
  • a ladies’ bonnet worn by a member of the Church of the Brethren
  • a chenille quilt with wool made in 1900
  • an old photo album, probably from the 1800s, contained numerous old pictures
  • a sterling silver match holder and an old book, which an assistant to the State Adjutant General during the Spanish American War used to record the needs of militias as he traveled
  • a framed picture of a grandmother stranding in front of her plane, and a picture of her pilot license from 1939

We had a great Christmas meeting with the SAR. Geoff Baggett was our speaker. He is an author, speaker, and living historian specializing in the American Revolutionary War. We had 75 DAR and SAR members in attendance.

Welcoming New Members . . .

Three sisters joined the chapter at the same time. One sister attended the installation via FaceTime because she lives out ofstate but wanted to be a member of our chapter.

Annual Chapter Teas

Our teas are held every year. This is a time when we can put on our fancy and unique hats, drink a wonderful cup (or more) of different flavors of herbal tea, and enjoy a scumptuous full-course meal and dessert served to us right at the table!
