To further the mission of DAR, here are a few of our endeavors:
American History Promotion and Preservation Committee
This committee oversees the tasks of the National Committees of Americanism, American History, American Heritage, American Indians and Historic Preservation
Promotes preservation of American cultural traditions. Promotes American history by honoring significant historic people, places, dates, children; and recognizes and events. Sponsors American History Essay contests and recognizes Women in American History. Assists American Indians with financial and scholarship aid. Provides information about area tribes and their histories and information about Bacone College’s needs. Also oversees the awarding of DAR Historic Preservation Grants, the Historic Preservation Medal and the Historic Preservation Recognition Award. We attend Naturalization ceremonies in Knoxville to provide refreshments.
Children of the American Revolution
Founded in 1895 by DAR, Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) trains good citizens, develops leaders, and promotes love of the United States of America and its heritage among young people. Chapter provides annual financial support to our affiliated group hosts them at a meeting each year to see a presentation of their activities and their state project. Members participate in some chapter activities such as Wreaths Across America..
Celebrate America Committee
This committee oversees the tasks of the National Committees of Commemorative Events, Constitution Week, America 250!
Identifies opportunities for commemorative events and promotes participation in celebrations. Chapter obtains a Constitution Week Proclamation from the city Mayor and participates in other special programs during the week of September 17-23. Encourages conservation efforts by educating our members about recycling opportunities, planting pollinator gardens, dogwood trees, and yellow rose bushes and the East Lake Shore cleanup event. We encourage members to celebrate our nation’s rich history and diversity of experience upon the threshold of America’s 250th anniversary
DAR Decorum Committee
This committee oversees the tasks of the National Committees of Protocol and Insignia
Oversees the proper use and placement of the Insignia, and placement of the various service bars and pins on the official DAR ribbon. Provides information and training to the chapter about the proper etiquette for recognizing and honoring members in positions of leadership.
DAR Outreach Committee
This committee oversees the tasks of the National Committees of DAR Library Outreach, DAR Magazine, DAR Museum Outreach, PR & Media
Bimonthly American Spirit magazine and Daughters newsletter informs and motivates the members, as well as raises the visibility of the National Society within the community. Members donate themed books to school libraries. Correspondent Docent for DAR provides programs on the DAR Museum and we have an active PR & Media presence
Educational Resources Committee
This committee oversees the tasks of the National Committees of Community Classroom, Literacy Promotion, DAR Scholarship, DAR Schools, DAR Good Citizens
Our Chapter supports the adopted special needs classroom in Knox County with teacher appreciation /support items are provided along with a Christmas basket and a Lenoir City school that provided ABA services. Good Citizen awards a student who promotes dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism among high school seniors by presenting national, state, and chapter awards. Our chapter encourages local students to apply for DAR scholarships by providing information to the schools. chapter provides gift cards and contributes financially to support Crossnore School and Children’s Home, North Carolina. The chapter assisted with erecting two Little Free Libraries. We maintain those Little Free Libraries with books donated by chapter members and a local library.
Genealogy & Research Committee
This committee oversees the tasks of the National Committees of Genealogical Records, DAR Genealogy Records Preservation, Patriot Records Project
Collects unpublished records of a genealogical nature that are made digitally available through the DAR Library. Members assist in online indexing of both state and national projects.
Lineage Documentation Committee
This committee oversees the tasks of the National Committees of Lineage Research, Specialty Research Committee, Volunteer Genealogists, DAR DNA Network
Assists chapters in finding documentation to complete prospective member applications. Assists prospective members and Daughters in working their applications and supplemental applications. We also encourage participation in the DAR DNA project and our genealogists assist other chapters when requested.
Membership Engagement Committee
This committee oversees the tasks of the National Committees of Membership, Junior Membership, Units Overseas
Promotes increased membership and retention by providing ideas for membership development and promotion. Assists Juniors in becoming well-informed members. Supports the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund and the Junior’s virtual 5K. We have several members that belong of Units Overseas chapters. Several members donated and purchased pins to support these chapters.
Patriotism Committee
This committee oversees the tasks of the National Committees of (The) Flag of the United States of America, Service to America,National Defense Committee, DAR Project Patriot, DAR Service for Veterans
We educate our members about the history of the flag and about its proper use in a flag minute that is contained in our agenda every month. We also distribute copies of the flag code and the Pledge of Allegiance to various libraries and other public buildings for the use of the community. Chapter supports the ideal of the Founding Fathers and encourages members to support Remember Everyone Deployed (R.E.D.) Fridays by wearing items of a red color on Fridays. Members regularly clean headstones and photograph them with GPS location for the Find A Grave and Billion Graves websites. Our chapter Organizes and coordinates DAR support for members of the military currently serving our country. Our members donate gifts, cash, personal care items, and time in service to America’s veterans. We attend the return of Honor Air flights returning from Washington, D.C.
Women’s Issues Committee
We support a domestic abuse shelter for women and another facility that helps with addiction recovery. The chapter collects and distributes toiletries to battered both locations and collects and distributes feminine hygiene products through local schools. We provide events for women’s health and holiday celebrations and celebrate our female veterans at events and during holidays.
