Old Glory supported the War Relief efforts of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and reported “splendid patriotic services by its members.” Each member served in some capacity through the Red Cross – many by knitting garments. The chapter also collected donations in order to provide support for French orphans, for Liberty Loans, and for reconstruction of the French Village of Tilloloy. In addition, in response to a request from NSDAR soliciting aid from chapters to provide comfort for soldiers, the chapter decided to host a “Chocolate Tea” from which the proceeds would be used to send chocolates to soldiers. One of the chapter’s treasures is a letter from President Herbert Hoover to Miss Gentry, thanking her for her allegiance to the country and for her patriotic efforts in conservation.
