1938 Old Glory Gavel

On June 14, 1938, thirty-two Old Glory members and ten guests celebrated Flag Day at the Sam Davis historic home in Smyrna, Tennessee.

During the celebration, Miss Gentry presented several vintage items to the chapter, including a gavel hand carved from a rolling pin during the mid-late1800s. Mrs. Nelson Rue, the newly elected Regent, accepted the gavel as Miss Gentry declared that from this point forward, it be known as the “Old Glory Gavel.”  Handed down from one Regent to the other, this gavel has called meetings to order for more than 80 years.
