What We Do
The General William Lee Davidson Chapter, NSDAR, focuses on promoting patriotism, historic preservation, and education through community service. If you are interested in more information, please contact us.
Promoting Patriotism
DAR members have encouraged patriotic activities and love of our country for more than a century. This love of country is evidenced in the multitude of patriotic projects our members support.
We support America’s service personnel in current conflicts abroad through care packages, phone cards, and other needed items. We sponsor “Holiday Gift Bags” for the Veterans Administration Hospital patients and donate items to homeless veterans. We send cards to active-duty military members. Our chapter is a Commemorative Partner with the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam Veterans, presenting Vietnam Veterans Lapel Pins to Vietnam veterans and their families to say “Thank you for your service and Welcome Home” from a grateful nation.
Recent activities include
- Promoting patriotism through the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, sponsorship of a local society of the Children of the American Revolution, and support of the local VA hospital.
- Presenting American Indian programs to fourth-grade elementary students
- Participating in Flag Day ceremonies at the Tennessee State Library Archives
- Commemorating Constitution Week, September 17-23, with students at a local elementary school.
- Serving as a Commemorative Partner with the United State Vietnam War Commemorative

Preserving Our Nation’s History
DAR members support a variety of projects to help preserve our cultural heritage. A major ongoing project is to preserve genealogical records, artifacts, and historical documents.
Some of our other historic projects include restoring and maintaining historical sites; preserving family cemeteries of some of our members and American Patriots. We are locating, restoring, marking American Revolutionary War Patriot gravesites and headstones, and organizing and contributing to significant restorations, commemorations, and memorials.
Recent activities include
- Holding workshops about how to preserve family Bibles
- Restoring family cemeteries and marking American Revolutionary War Patriot graves
- Sharing a play written by a chapter member about her female Native American Patriot
- Encouraging families to preserve family heirlooms
Educating the Public
DAR members are passionate about education. We have a history of establishing schools for the underserved in our country and continue to fund DAR schools, scholarships, and awards for outstanding students nationwide. We also support local schools and literacy programs for adults and children. Our chapter sponsors a school in the Antioch area with programs, books, supplies for students, and household items for their families.
