Activities
Since the organization of our chapter in 1927, we have continuously supported the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) in its mission. We have placed historical markers at the graves of many American Revolutionary War Patriots, as well as many historical buildings and other sites. We have partnered with the Robertson County school system in sponsoring the Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps program. Our chapter conducts the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest and the American History Essay Contest each year.
We publicize historical events, especially during Constitution Week, which occurs September 17-23. Displays at our public library, bell ringing, a proclamation signing, and lesson plans and activities for the students are just some of the ways we commemorate our country’s greatest document.
On Memorial Day, we conduct our annual flag placement ceremony at a cemetery, showing respect and honor to our veterans who sacrificed so much for our freedom. It is also our privilege and honor to support our local veterans on Veterans Day. Our members support many community organizations, as well, both financially and by volunteering generously of their time. There is an activity open to every member, no matter what her interest might be. The smiles seen in the photos below, reflect the joy that comes from service to others and spending time with friends. Join us in our service to the community.
