For more than a century DAR members have encouraged patriotic activities and love of our country. This love of country is evidenced in the multitude of patriotic projects supported our members. As a national organization we have provided more than 200,000 hours of volunteer time annually to veterans in Veterans Administration hospitals and non-VA facilities. We offer support to America’s service personnel in current conflicts abroad through care packages, phone cards and other needed items. We sponsor special programs promoting the Constitution during its official celebration week of September 17-23. In fact, the DAR petitioned Congress for a Constitution Week observance in 1956. DAR participates in naturalization ceremonies, presents patriotic awards to deserving individuals including Outstanding Veteran Volunteer Award, DAR Good Citizens awards and metals, ROTC metals and Community Service Awards.
